Over the past year, I’ve reflected back to what inspired me to build DanceBody. Why was I so passionate about this type of work in the beginning? Work that, even now, gives me the fortitude to keep it going.

The Protest That Reopened NYC Boutique Fitness: One Year Later
It’s been one year since our DanceBody team showed up at City Hall, to demand that NYC boutique fitness studios be reopened. Looking back, it was well worth it.

When I started DanceBody in 2013, I didn’t intentionally set out to create a “women-run” business. But that is what DanceBody is, proudly, 100% women-owned and run.

WE’VE SURVIVED ALMOST A DECADE.
Reflecting on our journey going into 2022, I feel proud, I feel restless, I feel inspired. We’ve survived these last few trying years, as we have the years before, with all of our heart and soul. I often wonder if we made it look too easy.

If we’re being honest with ourselves, this particular month, we’re probably not going to get to our workouts as much as we’d like. We’ll also likely have a hard time sticking to our ideal eating plan. And our sleep schedule? Yeah, we can probably forget about that too.
But that sacrifice of self is what the holidays are all about: thinking outside of ourselves and being present with friends and family. Then we jump back in, full energy, on January 1st to reprioritize, and set personal goals for the New Year. There is a certain beauty in putting yourself aside this month, and giving your time freely and openly to others.

When I started DanceBody I knew two things right away: 1. It wasn’t going to be easy and 2. I sure as hell didn’t want to do it alone! So, I made it my mission to surround myself with talented people who would be able to create with me.
My promise to churning out eight to 10 new dances every three months is a long term commitment to my clients that are ready to consume fresh content. And in order to make good on that promise, that means one thing: creativity.

Through the flurry of pink waves, we are reminded that October is dedicated to Breast Cancer Awareness, a month-long period that recognizes the 1 in 8 women who will develop invasive breast cancer at some point in their lifetime. But that “awareness” becomes personal when it happens to you, or someone you know and love. With the majority of DanceBody clients being female, so many of us have in some way experienced the effects of breast cancer, like my good friend Rebecca.

October is all about New Dances and our First National Tour
Break out the blood berry nail polish and cashmere skull sweater - IT’S OCTOBER. Easily, my favorite month of the year - and not just because it’s my birthday month (Scorpios unite!) but because it’s a true month of transformation. There is a glossy bold black line between September 30th and October 1st: the air feels different - clear and crisp - and the murky expansion the heat brought of months past disappears into a swift spooky vapor.
